Cancer Network Brings Academic Medical Center Expertise to the Community
When the diagnosis is cancer, patients want to know they can rely on advanced care no matter where they live. Now, the high standard of cancer care patients receive at their community hospitals will be enhanced.
Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin is bringing access to the extensive expertise of eastern Wisconsin’s only academic medical center to community hospitals by forming a Cancer Network in select locations:
By offering a connection with Froedtert & The Medical College, the Cancer Network brings access to more services: Nationally and internationally known specialists who focus on specific cancers, advanced treatments and technologies, and clinical trials that may provide further options.
Because Medical College of Wisconsin specialists at Community Memorial and St. Joseph’s hospitals collaborate with colleagues at Froedtert & The Medical College, patients receive the expertise of a comprehensive team. In regular meetings called “tumor boards,” radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and others discuss the best way to treat each patient. Together, they form treatment plans that offer optimal outcomes.
Through the Cancer Network, cancer care will be provided in the community hospital setting whenever possible. If patients need a specialized treatment, they may connect with Froedtert & The Medical College — and return home for follow-up care.
